Mayor de Blasio wants to take control of rent regulation from state lawmakers
For years, Republicans in the Senate have opposed efforts by Democrats and tenant advocates to strengthen the rent regulation laws to make it harder for property owners to shift their apartments to the free market. But if Democrats take control of the Senate in November, the de Blasio administration could be allowed to rule on rent regulation.

When the Democrats won the State Senate two years ago, the Independent Democratic Conference (headed by Senator Jeff Klein, and including Senator Tony Avella) prevented "home rule" and other rent reforms by caucusing with the Republicans. They've said that IF the Democrats win the majority, the IDC probably won't caucus with the Republicans - but that's a big "IF." So on Tuesday, Sept. 9, tenant in the Bronx, shouldvote AGAINST the IDC by voting FOR Oliver Koppell (running against Klein) and in Queens, should vote FOR John Liu (running against Avella).
